Leveraging its geographic location at the entrance to the Arabian Gulf, Ras Al Khaimah is currently implementing major infrastructure upgrade that will see expansion of port capacities, development of roads and air connectivity to become a major gateway to the region.

Ras Al Khaimah has four modern seaports providing excellent global connectivity to the emirate's booming industrial and trade sectors.

SAQR PORT:

  • Biggest port for bulk in the entire Middle East, handling nearly 30.5 million tons of bulk and assorted cargo during 2008, up from just 10.7 million tons in 2002.

  • Sheikh Saud has recently ordered a USD 900 million second phase expansion program for Saqr Port.

  • The expansion would create a total of 13 new berths which will be commissioned in 2011.

  • The Kuwait - based KGL Ports International (KGLPI) opened a new container terminal at Saqr Port in 2007 with a capacity to handle 350,000 TEUs

RAS AL KHAIMAH PORT:

  • RAK port situated on the creek running across the city is ideal for medium sized and small vessels, merchant dhows and launches.

  • Launch movement in RAK port has increased from 182 in 2001 to 1795 in 2007.

  • Handled 5.9 million tons of cargo in 2008.


AL JAZEERAH PORT:

  • Commissioned in 2003 to handle the growing demand for bulk shipments of aggregates and rocks for the burgeoning construction industry.

  • It has 9 berths and a total length of 1.1 kms.

  • Handled 13 million tones of cargo in 2008.

RAS AL DARA PORT:

  • New port set up for livestock imports to the UAE with dedicated livestock quarantine and medical facilities.
