RAK’s unique natural setting has the pristine blue waters of the Arabian Gulf, the rolling desert expanse of red sand dunes and the towering Hajjar mountain ranges all within a half hour traveling distance. RAK has implemented an effective tourism promotion strategy involving aggressive expansion of its hotel infrastructure as well as providing more tourism offerings and facilities to visitors.

Ras Al Khaimah selected for hosting the prestigious 33rd America’s Cup sailing competition in February 2010, marking the first time that the race will be held in the Middle East

GROWTH HIGHLIGHTS :

• Tourist arrivals have swelled from a mere 87,000 in 2002 to 234,000 in 2008
• Number of hotel rooms increased from 744 in 2002 to 2651 in 2009
• Number of hotels and hotel apartments grows from just 6 in 2002 to 26 in 2009
• Hotel occupancy rate grows from 44 percent in 2008 to 95 percent in 2008
• Ras Al Khaimah has 8 new luxury hotel projects in the pipeline which will add another 1619 rooms by 2011 taking the total hotel room capacity to 4270.

WOW RAK :

Wow RAK is an upcoming Tourism Development Project, being developed to include two adjacent Theme Parks with a capacity to cater to 15,000 visitors per day, a non-ticketed Shopping and Entertainment Plaza and Kabana Resorts.  The theme parks will be divided as a water theme park called Ice Land and Planet Earth Theme Park featuring 5 earth elements of Space, Ocean, Mountain, Jungle and Desert.
